End of the Year Parade and Carnival!

The boys got to walk in the Belleville parade with their classes! They had a ton of fun with all of their friends and then we all went to the carnival!

Another day in paradise...

We're all getting ready for the end of the school year. The boys have their end of the year parade and picnic tomorrow (pics to follow). Garrett finishes this year of pre-k and Griffin graduates to kindergarten next week in a graduation ceremony he has been working very hard for. It's a big surprise and we can't know anything about it! The boys are looking forward to their summer! Kennedy is getting closer and closer to taking off walking. She's a constant talker/babbler and always smiling.

The beginning

I'm going to try this out as a way not only to keep you all updated on our growing family, but also to keep a record of the day-to-day as I'm finding the memories slipping away! I feel so old. Our life is crazy and hectic and we often note how something that happens is momentous and then a moment later...we move onto something else. So hopefully, this will help to keep me focused on the important things in our lives.

INTRODUCTIONS

Griffin

Griff is enjoying his time in pre-k! He has tons of friends and is making the best of his time there. Currently, he really likes doing math problems. We've even worked up to double digits! (43+63=...) He's getting really good at them! We are constantly getting notes such as "I love my mom and dad and Garrett and Kennedy and everyone else". He tries to spell out everything he sees and often refuses to answer us until he can figure out how to spell his response. He's full of jokes and one-liners that he thinks are hysterical! He received the integrity award for showing the necessary characteristics at school at the end of last year and just this month received an award for "exemplary behavior and serving as a role model for your peers" from the St. Louis Chief of Police for "doing the right thing"! He's very proud of himself as are we. He's looking forward to kindergarten in the fall more than anything else as that gives him a status of "the real big boy" but is starting to realize that means his friends at pre-k aren't going with him. His best friends Ruby, Leila, Evan, Ethan, and Hope will head off to their own home schools and this "does not sound like a good idea to him" but we're looking forward to it never the less.

Garrett

Garrett is really beginning to find himself in pre-k. He's starting to make some friends now and look forward to going to school which is a nice change. He really likes one of his teachers Mrs. Cheseldine and she has been a great avenue for him to express himself in class. He comes home with new pictures and stories every day and is getting really good at writing his name. More than anything though, he is looking forward to going to "the lake" with Grandma and PopPops this summer and that is all that he talks about. He loves animals of all kinds and can't wait to feed the ducks and go fishing with his PopPops this summer. He's turning into quite the personality as he's fighting to make a spot for himself next to, instead of behind, his very charismatic older brother. Competition is the name of the game in this house most times and he is definitely starting to be to hold his own. He just won the perseverance award award for the month of March at school and was very excited to tell everyone all about it. Garrett is my cuddler. Even if just for a moment, my tough guy loves to cuddle with everyone whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Kennedy

Kennedy is getting bigger by the minute it seems. She's finally started walking again after claiming the very first Gallagher bone break when she broke her clavicle in February. She had to be restrained for over a month in her high chair so that she could heal. That was not easy and once she was released, she went back to crawling. Just this weekend though, she has finally started to walk again! 9 steps yesterday! Woo hoo! She's talking up a storm and starting to respond when we ask her a question, such as shaking her head no and yes, repeating the world please, and random other words. The boys are convinced they are hearing other worlds too, like when Griffin swears up and down that she said Virginia yesterday. :) She has no problem getting her voice heard over her rowdy brothers as there is no question as to her princess standing in this house. Daddy and the boys jump to her batting eyelashes. We're in trouble! Last weekend she got four new teeth! Yes four! So we are up to 8 teeth now and ready for that real food. Her newest cute thing is that when she wants our attention, she points at us and that means we are to touch our finger to hers. That makes her satisfied. :)

While this blog is mostly an update regarding the kids, real quick...Brian and I are busy, as always, with work and school. Life is crazy and chaotic most of the time as we are on opposite schedules and rarely in the same room at the same time, let alone the same city. It makes for a difficult sort of communicating via post-it notes, text messages and e-mails, but we really try to take advantage of our one day when we are all at home, for family time on Sundays and make the most of it. We're making it work as we draw closer and closer to our goal of finishing school and "starting" to live for today instead of five years from now. While not our ideal situation, Brian being able to be a stay at home dad right now is working for us and all of us are benefiting from that. I am starting to look towards applying to law schools as we speak, aiming to start next fall (2011), as I will graduate FINALLY from the University of Illinois Springfield in December (walk in June). I'm hoping to attend Southern Illinois University School of Law full-time next fall.

Love to all...hope this format works for everyone because I think you'll be able to get better and more up to date information on the kids, assuming I can find the time to keep it up!
